If you are not going to Barcelona next weekend, I would like to invite you to take part in a discussion forum about collecting moving image work.
Part of the moving image exhibition Visions in the Nunnery, the forum will take place on Sunday 24th May between 3 and 5.30pm at the Nunnery Gallery, Bow Arts Lane, 181-183 Bow Road, London, E3 2SJ.
Collectors, curators, archive keepers and artists will meet and discuss the economic and cultural dynamics of collecting moving image work in the twenty first century. More details at openvisions.org.
If you cannot attend: What questions would you ask? Do you collect moving image work? Would you tell us more about your collection, your relationship with the work, your aspirations?
We look forward to reading and hearing your contribution.

Hi Cinzia, thank you for the hint! As you say, it’s time for “Loop – the place for video art lover”, the annual appointment in Barcelona for art professionals and art lovers focusing on video art. IC was offering a special VIP package for this art fair, we’ll be waiting for reports!
Personally I am very interested in video art and in particular in the relationship between video art and film – I have worked in the organization of a prize addressed to artists dealing with this theme and I have written my master’s thesis about a video art collection in Berlin, the Mike Steiner Collection, which is preserved in the museum Hamburger Bahnhof.
Video art is a growing market, but it still needs standardization and many collectors still hesitate to buy video art because of the particular characters of this medium. I’ve been dealing with contracts to buy video art and there are totally new aspects you have to consider, like copyright, found footage, editions on the market, exhibition’s modalities, technical support, etc.
Also recently I have been researching about taxes on art and I’ve learned that in some countries, like Greece and Germany, new media do not enjoy the fiscal facilitations which is reserved to art and are taxed as standard goods because they are considered as not original. This is a very obsolete way of thinking for contemporary art!
